FAQ for Photography by Jen Davis│Robbinsville & Princeton NJ

What should I expect from our session?

The first few minutes of a session are for me to get a sense of you, or your family, engage your children, and confirm your wants and needs.  I love capturing real life, candid moments. With children, I will engage them with ‘poses’ and silly songs & words to get the most natural results. For families, please remember to interact together because these are the photos that are most memorable!  Traditional sessions take about 1 hour, newborns sessions are 2-3 depending on the needs of the baby.

I take a lot of images during our session. People blink, children cry, and hair blows in the wrong direction sometimes. Your gallery will contain the absolute best art I have created for you. Excited? Me too!

How long before I see my images?

I will usually post a sneak peek to Facebook (with your permission) within a few days.  You will have a peek on my blog to share as well.  I strive to complete every gallery within 2-3 weeks, however many times it is available for viewing much sooner. Professional editing consists of more than just loading the photos, clicking the saturate or the black and white button. There is so much more to professional editing. I smooth skin, fix blemishes, adjust tones/colors, fix background issues, and give every image personal attention.

What should I (we) wear?

Clothing is an important part of planning for your session. Here are a few tips when deciding what to wear: Choose clothes without logos or loud prints, this ensures the images will be timeless Simple is best. Busy patterns are distracting. Accessories are always a plus. Bracelets, scarves, belts, hat’s, hair bows etc can make for textures and can be used on and off to create different looks. You do not need to match your family with the exact color or clothing. What works well is a similar color palette. For instance the colors mustard, light-medium grays and white all look amazing together. Think of your clothing like you would think of room decor. Watch the weather to ensure that clothing choices will fit your needs. Nothing is worse than someone being too hot or cold.  Please see my pinterest board for some ideas!

I am doing a newborn session, what do I need to know?

The photo shoot can take place either in your home or outdoors.  Sessions are lifestyle in nature, and I use no props, but rather I prefer to document your little one as they are – tiny, new and perfect.  The new family is part of the session and I shoot using natural light at your home.  This way, every session is unique because everything in it is yours.  I will always stop if the baby/family needs a break to nurse, have a snack, or need an outfit change.

Is it ok if I have some ideas?

Absolutely!  We can work together to create your vision.   Even better, make an inspiration board on Pinterest for me to check out of shots you love.

What happens if I lose my images?

In this digital age, with convenience also comes risk.  I highly recommend that when you receive your digital images, you create a copy (or two!) and put them in a few different places.  I keep all client images for 3 months from the date your gallery is first presented to you online.  If your disc or USB drive becomes corrupt, your computer fails, or you lose the images within the 3 month time frame, your images can be re-issued for a $75 fee.  If images loss occurs after the 3 month time frame, please contact me, I might still have them!

What form of payment do you accept?

I accept credit, cash, checks, or money order.  Please make these payable to Photography by Jen Davis.  I do accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and AMEX.  You can also pay with PayPal by gifting the money to jambedda@hotmail.com.

Do you have a studio?

While my preference is to shoot on location and with natural light, I do have a natural light studio that I use for beauty/boudoir sessions, maternity and small children {in the winter months} and corporate head shots.  Would you like to see some examples?  See the commercial page for my portfolio for head shots, or these links for family/child sessions:  http://photographybyjendavis.pass.us/clairecake  & http://photographybyjendavis.pass.us/arendt/c-vMs1W3190982

Do you have a referral program?

Absolutely, I’m thrilled when you chat about my work to friends and family.  As a thank you, every client that books a session with me, and has been referred by you, earns you $50!  You can apply that to a future session, or I can send you a VISA gift card.  Your choice!  I’ve had clients pay for entire sessions with referral credit.  Win-win.

Did I forget something?  Please contact me and I will be happy to answer any and all questions that you have!
